The traditional oracle printed with Goswami Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas: nine chaupais hidden in a grid of 225 syllables. Think of your question, remember Shri Ram, and touch any one cell — every ninth cell from it spells the chaupai that answers you.
Phal (answer): An excellent answer. The work will succeed and the wish will be fulfilled.
Bal Kand — Mother Gauri (Parvati) blesses Sita that her heart's wish will be fulfilled.
Phal (answer): Begin the work remembering God — it will succeed. A good answer.
Sundar Kand — before Hanuman enters Lanka, Lankini tells him: keep Shri Ram in your heart, enter the city and do all your work.
Phal (answer): Not a good answer. There is deceit in this matter and it will not end well — better to leave it.
Bal Kand — whoever is different inside and out cannot last; like Kalanemi, Ravana and Rahu, the truth comes out.
Phal (answer): A middling answer. Beware of bad company or being misled; hold on to your own values.
Bal Kand — by fate good people fall into bad company, yet like the jewel on a serpent's head they keep their own virtue.
Phal (answer): Hard to say / uncertain now. Leave it to God's will and do not argue with fate — what comes will be for the best.
Bal Kand — Shiva tells Parvati: what Ram has ordained will happen; why grow branches of argument.
Phal (answer): An excellent answer. The work will succeed; the company and guidance of good people bring blessing.
Bal Kand — the company of saints is full of joy and blessing; it is the moving Prayag (king of pilgrimages) of the world.
Phal (answer): A very good answer. The work will certainly succeed; trouble passes and even opponents turn favourable.
Sundar Kand — for one who has Shri Ram's grace, poison turns to nectar, enemies to friends, the ocean to a cow's hoof-print and fire to coolness.
Phal (answer): A middling answer. There are obstacles and strong opposition; success is doubtful now — be patient and wait for the right time.
Lanka Kand — even Varuna, Kubera, Indra and Vayu could not hold their ground before Meghnad in battle.
Phal (answer): An excellent answer. The wish will be fulfilled and the work will succeed.
Bal Kand — on the way to the bow-sacrifice with Vishwamitra: "may your wishes be fulfilled" — hearing this Ram and Lakshman were glad.
The chaupais are from Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas (Gita Press edition prints this prashnavali). Take the answer as guidance for reflection, not as a fixed prediction.
